Workshop Descriptions

Audition Techniques
Taught by Sarah Wallis
January 26 // 1 – 4 PM

Approach auditions with confidence and creativity. Learn mental and physical preparation techniques, practice analyzing materials to make authentic, grounded choices, and refine your unique take on a role to stand out from the crowd. You will also craft a post-audition ritual to celebrate your effort and stay motivated for the next opportunity.

Songwriting
Taught by Riley Schatz
February 9 // 1 – 4 PM

Explore the art of storytelling through music by adapting myths, folk tales, and fairy tales into original songs. Students will uncover how stories evolve to reflect different societies and learn the purpose of key musical theater song types, including the opening number, the "I Want" song, the antagonist's song, and the transformative "eleven-o'clock" number. Guided by creative discussion and collaborative exercises, students will craft their own pieces, blending timeless storytelling with their unique musical voices.

On-Camera Auditions
Taught by Amor Owens
March 23 // 1 – 4 PM

Equip yourself with the skills to create polished self-tape auditions for film, television, and theater. Students will learn how to break down a script, prepare a scene, and set up a professional space with proper equipment, lighting, and sound. Through hands-on practice, you'll bring your scene to life, showcase your unique essence, and leave ready to confidently submit standout auditions.

Broadway Dance
Taught by Kerrington Griffin
April 27 // 1 – 4 PM

Explore the dynamic world of Broadway musical theater through jazz, tap, and ballet. Participants will learn and perform a dance combination inspired by these genres, experimenting with different musical theater soundtracks to enhance their musicality and performance skills. By the end of the workshop, you’ll gain the confidence to shine in auditions and on stage, ready to embrace your star potential.

Improv
Taught by Avery Sharpe
May 4 // 1 – 4 PM

Uncover the truth in the moment to create exciting, authentic scenes with improvisation. Through fun, fast-paced games, you’ll sharpen your ability to go with the flow, think on your feet, and collaborate with others to build truthful and often hilarious realities. This workshop fosters a supportive environment where you can express yourself freely, embrace spontaneity, and help others do the same.
