Improv

Two young men sit and talk in the foreground, while a group of students stand and watch in the background in a classroom or rehearsal space.

Improvisation is a form of theater in which all elements of a story and scene are made up on the spot. Professional Improv troupes often take suggestions from an audience to start a scene. In this residency, the teacher and teaching artist look to the curriculum for inspiration and students work as part of an ensemble to practice following improvisational rules and techniques (“yes, and…”) in unscripted scenes. This program is spontaneous and engaging, offering students the opportunity to think critically and quickly as part of a collaborative team.
