What is Arts Integration?
Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both (source: The Kennedy Center).
The Alliance Theatre Institute partners with school districts and schools to deliver professional learning for educators and arts integrated and/or theater-based instruction for students. General classroom teachers benefit from an arts integrated unit, which connects an art form (theater) with another academic subject (such as English language arts, social studies, mathematics, or science).
Additionally, the Institute partners with theater and dance/movement teachers to provide world-class theater experiences designed to enhance the theater arts curriculum.
STEAM
The Alliance Theatre Institute is proud to serve as a community partner for schools that focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) programming and certification. Through our residencies and workshops, teachers learn arts-integrated strategies that serve any content area and can be applied to their next lesson, unit of study, and/or project-based learning.
Lessons may be crafted to fit schools’ specific needs, including those seeking STEAM certification.
