Community Talk: Women’s Voices from the Mountain South
Friday, September 17th
7:30pm, prior to the 8pm performance of DARLIN' CORY
Memorial Arts Building // Event Room, 2nd Floor

Join us for a pre-show talk with Kami Ahrens, Curator at the Foxfire Museum and author of a forthcoming book of interviews with women from Southern Appalachia. Ahrens will highlight the stories of a diverse group of women from the region and share materials from the museum’s collection of Appalachian culture on display in the Memorial Arts Building during the run of DARLIN' CORY.

The Foxfire magazines and books were first published more than 50 years ago by a group of high school English students and their teacher who wanted to learn more about their disappearing mountain culture and combat discriminating stereotypes of the region. The museum—an outgrowth of the original oral history project—and best-selling publication continues to serve as an important institution for preserving and documenting Appalachian culture and heritage.

This is a free event for ticket holders of DARLIN' CORY. No RSVP required.
