Music & Lyrics by Tituss Burgess
Directed by Michael Arden and Tinashe Kajese-Bolden

In their fast-gentrifying Harlem neighborhood, Preacher Henry and his wife Julia struggle to keep their congregation going in the face of development.  When all seems lost, Henry asks God for help, and receives it in the form of an angel.  But will this mysterious newcomer really help or make matters worse?  Through it all, Julia must find her voice and the strength to lead their congregation through the crisis, reminding them that a church is not a building, but the people who inhabit it and the love they share. Featuring an original score by actor, comedian, and writer Tituss Burgess (TV's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and a book by actress, producer, and writer Azie Dungey (TV's Harlem), The Preacher's Wife is a can't-miss theatrical celebration of community, family, and faith.

Based upon the motion pictures The Bishop’s Wife produced by Samuel Goldwyn; The Preacher’s Wife produced by Samuel Goldwyn, Jr., and the novel The Bishop’s Wife written by Robert Nathan.

Note from the Artistic Directors

To explore matters of faith and love, we tend to turn to the poets or the preachers. We seek their guidance when wrestling with life’s biggest questions. What is our purpose and how do we overcome setbacks? Do we love deeply enough? Will that bring us happiness? Can both destiny and free will exist simultaneously?

  • “I’ve been waiting a long time to give this to the world. I hope it brings audiences as much joy as writing it has brought me!”
    Tituss Burgess, Composer & Lyricist
  • “I am blown away by the wealth of talent, diversity of style and breadth of experience overflowing in this cast! From our talented Atlanta actors to Broadway vets and Hollywood royalty, they each bring a unique sense of purpose and connection to the material that is magnetic and powerful! The stars aligned in our favor bringing Amber Riley and Akron Watson together as our dynamic leads, with the legendary talent of Loretta Devine and the fantastically debonair Donald Webber, Jr as our Angel. But what I believe will make this story unforgettable is the joy that radiates from each one of these inspired artists which will undoubtedly give us all a little more faith in the world!”
