Highlights include contributing to multi-platinum movie soundtracks Hope Floats, The Five Heart Beats, Where the Heart Is, and My Best Friend’s Wedding, television shows like Desperate Housewives, and creating the national campaign theme, “Have You Had Your Break Today,” for McDonald’s. A stratospheric anthem from this collection, “Way Up There,” written and produced by Clark and performed by Patti LaBelle, was nominated for a Grammy award. The show was outstanding, of course! The expectations were already high because Twist is an Alliance Theatre production. Add to that, it is directed AND choreographed by the extraordinary Debbie Allen. There was superb singing, acting, and dancing! The multicultural and multi-talented cast flawlessly executed the various dances; tap, ballet, African, modern, jazz and did I say TAP?! The whole performance (but especially the funeral and Mardi Gras scenes) had Debbie Allen's talents and 'flava' all over it!

There were many creoles during that time. The play could reflect the diversity more. Being a "mulatto" in New Orleans during that period wasn't much of a surprise. I liked the music & dancing. I felt the story needs work.

From the infectious opening number to the final curtain call, “Twist” is high-quality, toe-tapping “Broadway” in Atlanta!
Talented performers, a sumptuous set and rollicking dance numbers keep your interest throughout the show. Though all the songs were good and some great, I didn’t hear any songs that resonated like Broadway classics of old (“food, glorious food”— Oliver) or new (“Defying Gravity”—Wicked) that may come upon subsequent viewings. (though not by me, per se, can’t afford too many viewings.)
Directed by dance wizard, Debbie Allen, the story borrows and enhances the classic Charles Dickens novel, “Oliver Twist” ...
Kudos to Debbie Allen, the cast and creators for “Twist”.

While I greatly appreciated the level of talent involved with the production, I thought the musical itself was very weak, and at times, bizarre. The talent assembled made the evening a pleasurable one, especially Shawna Hamic who was amazing as she belted her song while birthing a baby. What could and should have been a ludicrous moment worked because of her. Ditto for the actor who played the undertaker. His song was so well performed that I forgave the absurd situation, and weak music and lyrics. There were so many odd moments in the production and such a terrible book, it was hard to take it seriously. The music was all over the place stylistically, given the wonderful period in which it was set. Why was the idiom of the period not used more in the score? The staging and choreography didn't seem to fit and with each scene the play got more and more silly.
The Alliance is a first-rate theater, so I have no idea why they didn't vet this production and keep it in a second-rate community theatre where it belongs.

Saw TWIST tonight and I was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the entire show. The music and dancing was amazing. I was hooked from the moment the show began. The acting and singing was outstanding. I just loved the way the numbers were staged. So much excitement and emotions. Lots of laughs, a few tears, and I enough got scared a few times. BRAVO to the cast and crew. Congratulations to Debbie Allen and the cast. I look forward to seeing it again WHEN Twist goes to Broadway.

My husband and I were fortunate to see the show on Sept 5th.
As soon as the curtain went up the action began and did not stop for a moment!! Song after song, dance after dance it just built up to the end and when it was over we all jumped up and shouted!!! Then, for me, the icing on the cake was that I got to meet Mr. Harold Wheeler. He was standing at the back by the door and I got to shake his hand....what a thrill. I predict this is Broadway bound and I just can't recommend it enough. It was true entertainment.

I saw the show on Thursday, 9/2 and was absolutely amazed at this moving rendition. Every one was perfect as far as i could tell. I loved Tracy as Crazah, go Tracy, you played the heck out of that role. Much success and I'll see this play again in New York, I'm sure. Great work Debbie, cast and crew

I saw the show this past weekend and was in awe of the talent. The children were amazing and inspiring. I enjoyed the show from the being to the end. Was actually disappointed when it ended. The stamina from the cast and especially the children was so refreshing to see. Seeing the talent and the passion behind the talent.....inspiring. Can't wait to see it again!

I auditioned for this show in Atlanta. Call backs were the most fun! I couldn't have had a more professional, inspiring experience just being amongst all of the talent and sweat that was present in the room. I think Debbie Allen is an amazing dancer, and an even a more amazing character- still an uderstatement-! Wasn't quite what she was looking for... but hey, that's what you get when you audition next to Rickey Mickenny. (lol)
Good Luck cast!

I'm a Junior High student who went to see this production with my class and loved it so much I had to go back and take my mom! It was fantastic! Everyone was such an amazing actor/singer/musician/dancer. This should most definately make it to broadway!
I'm really looking forward to a soundtrack to come out so to the production people: please put these amazing songs on itunes or in a cd... that would be wonderful!

It was better than what we saw on Broadway in September. Fantastic job to the cast and crew! We look forward to the rest of the season.

Twist was amazing! This is going to be a hit on Broadway. I've been a season ticket holder for Broadway Across America shows for 10 years and this was better than or at least equal to any of those shows.
