Sesame Workshop

Sesame Workshop is the nonprofit educational organization that revolutionized children's television programming with the creation of Sesame Street. Founded in 1968, Sesame Workshop began with a vision from its co-founder Joan Ganz Cooney to use television to help prepare young children for success in school.

The Workshop combines curricula that address critical developmental needs with media and a large dose of fun to create educational content that reaches children in more than 150 countries. Sesame Street has introduced generations of children to letters and numbers, but also delivers lessons supporting health, emotional well-being and respect and understanding with the help of the beloved Sesame Street Muppets including Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster. International Sesame Street programs are tailored to the unique needs of children, their country and culture, developed with local educators, advisors, producers and performers. Beyond television, the Workshop produces outreach initiatives bring lessons directly into the homes and classrooms that address a wide range of issues including resiliency, emergency preparedness, and military deployment.

Four decades later, Sesame Workshop has grown in step with the exploding media landscape. It’s become a multimedia pioneer, using everything from radio, books, and videos to the latest in interactive media and technology. Sesame Street now makes virtually every digital interaction a fun and fur-filled opportunity to learn and help today’s child reach their highest potential.
